MSC Lausanne – ship with an odd-shaped stern; 20 February

During 2015, MSC Lausanne was widened – she had around 7.56 metres of beam added, being cut along her centreline, and box sections added to widen the hull. A new bow and bulb were added, designed to suit her new 20 knot service speed, but her stern was kept exactly as was, resulting in an odd shape at the stern, which is still exactly the original shape and size.
Her engine was retained, the prop changed, and her added beam resulted in her container slot capacity increasing from 4,972 to 6,296 TEU.
